Jabavu residents stressing over illegal dumping

Taking responsibility for preserving the environment.

Jabavu Ward 35 councillor Sabata Banda and Branch Chairperson of ANC Calvin Modiri launched a cleanup campaign after receiving outcries about areas that had become hotspots for illegal dumping. This campaign will be an on-going campaign.

According to Calvin Modiri Branch Chairperson of ANC, in the memory of the mother of nation Winnie Madikizela Mandela, “We are honouring her by keeping our environment clean. Through our partnership with the residents, we opted to clean the sites and hope they’ll be looked after.

“The community has to continue to maintain these spots which have been cleaned. I would like to encourage people to care for the environment and to spread the knowledge about the risks that come with illegal dumping and litter,” said Modiri.

Councillor Banda said, “The City of Johannesburg doesn’t have the budget to execute or to deliver on certain service delivery matters residents demand. We ought to take full responsibility for ensuring that we keep our community clean, together,” he added.
