VIDEO: “Easter is a time of giving, sharing and just being united”

Founder of D2RSA Natalie Goodman talks about her organisation and the significance of Easter to her organisation.

“Easter is a time of giving and sharing and just being united. I believe that we always have platforms to be thankful and if we give and instil more into our children we will then see the fruits,” said the founder of the organisation Dare2ReadSA (D2R), Natalie Goodman.

On April 4, the D2R team had a combined programme with the Church of the Nazarene to cater for children in the Coronationville area.

The church on its own runs their holiday day programme every year for the little ones to stay off of the streets and this year they had an opportunity to participate in the D2R annual Easter Egg Hunt. This all took place at the Coronationville Library.

“The purpose and plan of this year’s Easter Egg hunt is for our children but also they have designed and completed Easter baskets that will be donated to children in orphanages in Riverlea and in Discovery.

“We also, however, want to cater to them and make them feel special so we got sponsors to come in and help us and we created an Easter hunt for them today,” said Goodman.

Goodman explained that she approached the University of Johannesburg (UJ) about a year ago and has actively been involved in projects with them so the university sent out volunteers to assist the organisation whenever they have big projects or events.

According to Goodman, the volunteers assist D2R with their reading programme on Saturdays as well. The day consisted of two guests, a short movie, an Easter egg hunt and some more treats thereafter. The Church of the Nazarene also provide the children with a delicious meal.

“I would just like to thank all the sponsors, UJ for their team, I would also like to thank my team who is very dedicated,” concluded Goodman.

On April 7 the team planned a trip to the orphanages in Riverlea and Discovery with guests Mrs Africa, Lucinda Pietersen and the first princess Mrs Africa, Diana Robertson to distribute the Easter baskets with goodies and books inside of them.
