Meet Lungile and his Kasi coloured comic books

"I love what I am doing and I would love to run my own production studio one day."

Talent comes through for a young man who was once deemed a slow learner in primary school and is set to make a name for himself as a professional comic artist.

Ntokozo Lungile Mageba from Diepkloof can tell any story through his gift of drawing comic strips. The artist remembers not being popular as a youngster because he used to carry his colouring pens everywhere.

Before realising that he could create works of art once his hands were in sync with his eyes, Lungile Mageba was told that he was a below average learner while he was at primary school since his reading and spelling was not on the same level as his peers.

When he picked up a newspaper and saw the comic strips, it made it easier for him to understand and one of his teachers told him that the comic strips were a great way for him to learn.

Mageba started a deeper exploration of the world of comics and cartoons and this inspired him to start creating his own comics.

He said, “I love what I am doing and I would love to run my own production studio one day and I envision it to grow big as Marvel Studios.”

The artist wants to break the stigma that South Africans cannot tell globally interesting comic stories on par with Hollywood standards. He is currently working on a comic book called Exo, which centres around artificial intelligence.

He said, “I want to lay a standard for my child and show him that art can really create wealth.”

Mageba, who is currently seeking sponsorship to further polish his gift, didn’t let not going to further his education stop him from doing what he loves. People who would like to assist the young man to achieve his dream of studying can call 073 443 6096.
