Work begins as Bosmont Spruit undergoes rehabilitation

A massive multi-million-rand rehabilitation project started.

If you’ve seen the Bosmont Spruit you will notice that it looks like a real mess. Michael Kahn, the deputy chairman of the Bosmont Football Association (BFA) explained why the spruit looks the way it does. According to Kahn, there is a massive rehabilitation project underway.

The BFA has for over eight years been campaigning for the rehabilitation of the Bosmont spruit (Willows) which is a natural wetland. Part of that wetland was diverted, causing massive damage to the Bosmont Sports fields and surrounding areas.

“After eight years of frustrating lobbying of officials and politicians in Joburg Metro, we BFA finally received good news last year. A massive multi-million-rand rehabilitation project started.

“Armed with a water licence and a hundred-year flooding plan from the rehabilitation of the Bosmont Spruit specifically South of Albertina Sisulu forming Maraisburg.

“This rehabilitation plan will restore the Willows to its previous natural state. The water licence also demanded that South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) and the mines west of the N1 became involved in the project,” said Kahn.
