Video: Brandon uplifting young people through art

Locally inspired talent.

On March 24, the Empowerment and Community Upliftment Organization (EMACU) hosted an event at Nkanyezi Hall (Jabavu). Different groups around Soweto were given a platform to showcase their talents through Music, Art, Drama, Poetry, and Drama.

This event was meant to make the community aware of EMACU existence and that they are uplifting education and art is a platform where kids discover their hidden talents.

EMACU ensures that children get the education that they deserve and change the world. The groups that were performed induku enhle, EMACU, Young achievers, Appsolype Bruno, and Ghetto Revolution.



According to Brandon Ntekele, the founder of EMACU, my peer’s quitted school and some are Nyaope boys so this organization is there to help youth not to do the same mistake and let their dreams go down the drain.

He does poetry, music, dance, and drama director which gave him more passion to form this group and helping people to reach their full potential is in his blood.

“Our future plans are to creating a kitchen soup where kids can have something to eat in the morning and afternoon.

“We also want to teach elderly people art because some of them love to sing and help people to reach their final destination,” said Ntekele.

Nonhlanhla Moekena said that joining EMACU has changed her life and she appreciates the love and support she receives. Through this organization, she gained confidence, father figure, and has discovered the love of art and fell in love with drama.

“Youth needs to join any organization that deals with art because it takes you out of the street and they are a lot of things that we do and it uplifts our spirit. If you lack self-confidence you gain it, love and support are also provided,” she said.
