VIDEO: Women’s testimonies leave birthday girl in tears

Also, Cheryl Pillay gives a bit of background behind Hadassah Centre for Women [video].

You know that there is a higher power out there when things turn around the way they did for the Hadassah Centre for Women (HCW).

The HCW was first a farm in De Deur where drugs were manufactured. A story was done by Carte Blanche that eventually led to the auction of the property.

This is where Cheryl Pillay, chairperson of the Local Drug Action Committee put in a bid to buy the place. When Pillay got the property, she decided to use the space in so many ways, that she would be able to change the lives of many, for the better.

Euston Lemmetjies said that he is living proof of the difference Pillay is trying to make. Lemmetjies was a drug-afflicted victim before becoming one of South Africa’s most successful barbershop owners.

Fairyal Hutton is another living testament. Hutton was one HCW’s first, where her journey only grew from strength to strength and now would like to do work, just like Pillay. She even said that she can go work for R20 000 or more but she wouldn’t because this is where her heart is.

Sunday, March 18 was not only a day to commemorate the work that Come Back Mission does but also to celebrate, Juanita Mathomes birthday, one of the owners of JJ’s Roof Top Restaurant and bar.

The women from the centre performed an item for Mathomes that had her in tears as many of their testimonies will break your heart.
Miss Matric, Darnelle Jacobs, First Princess, Devenay Miles and Second Princess, Leunette Frits were also part of the celebration.

Liesl Laurie former Miss South Africa was assigned to do work at HCW which could possibly lead in the same direction for the delegates in the Miss Matric Pageant.

After everything on the programme took place, those who attended shared a meal together with various finger snacks and farm-baked bread.
