Your children’s safety matters

"Our children's lives are the most important thing over anything else."

Children’s safety is of utmost importance in the Eldorado Park community. On their way to and from school, many children do not have transport to drop them off in front of their school gate, most of the pupils walk to school. This, however, isn’t a bad thing but it can be. The traffic in the mornings, here in Eldorado Park can get hectic. So what is there to do?

Well, Phillip Ratson from the Greater Kliptown Environmental Forum, a community leader and scholar patrol volunteer has the answer.

He said, “I do this scholar patrol thing because of my interest and my heart bleeds out for the community for previous accidents on these roads.”

Speaking of previous accidents, Micheal Ratson lost a child a few years back when his child was involved in a hit and run situation just opposite the Hillbrow flats.

This would not be the first time something like this has happened in the community. Many people are involved in hit and runs and don’t make it out alive, not so long ago a guy was bumped in Buckingham Street, Eldorado Park Extension Six. When will it end?

Phillip said, “A lot of people have been bumped, on February 20, a child was bumped as well and that hurts me on the inside because I am a community leader.

“I just want to say that we want to put our children first. Our children’s lives are the most important thing over anything else. That’s why we are here to assist our community.”

They need as many people on board as possible I order for them to be able to cover all areas where primary school pupils go to school, and they need support from you, the community.

Phillip added, “I’m so glad that the parents are supporting me, the road safety programme that I’m doing, I’m so glad for their assistance as most of them are thinking about their children’s lives on the road. The roads are not safe and our biggest challenges on the roads are taxi drivers.”
