A warm massage to relieve and heal the pains

Understanding stone therapy.

Stone therapy comes a long way in ancient cultures where the stones were heated and placed on an area on the body that may be in pain, today this treatment is seen as a luxury treatment that is offered by many beauty salons and spas.

Students at Nouvelle Beaute’, a beauty course programme in Brixton had completed their hot stone massage treatment. Dr Anton van Niekerk, a registered Natural Health Practitioner (NHP), a BCom Industrial Psychology graduate and an internationally qualified beauty therapist, and Counsellor Annetjie du Toit (62) have been assisting the students throughout the course.

The students are from Eldorado Park, Coronationville, Florida, Randfontein, and Riverlea. They have learned how to massage with Basalt stones which are said to have been ‘spat out’ of hot lava from erupting volcanoes.

With the exposure to many elements in nature, these stones are said to have minerals and crystals inside of them. Before the stones are used by the students, each student had to have their hands measured and there were other facts that played a part in what kind of stone size they received.

During the process of massaging, the stones need to be placed in hot water and they need to be oiled after so that they can easily glide over the skin.

Hot stone massages are essential for muscle relaxation as the heat softens the muscle so that therapist can massage correctly. The massage assists with minor aches and pains.

The extra warmth of the hot stones and the Swedish massage movements will increase blood flow and eliminate toxicants. These therapeutically massages also assist in an increase of blood circulation.

As the stones are said to have crystals in, these crystals carry an energy that creates a calm feeling in the client. People who suffer from the below conditions will benefit from the hot stone massages:

– Muscular aches, pains, sprains, and strains

– Inflammation of joints or muscle tissue (Fibromyalgia)

– Back pain

– Stress, anxiety, and tension

So the next time you have any of the above, consider going for a hot stone massage, not just as a luxury but for the health benefits as well.
