These two producers are looking to bring the term ‘local is lekker’ to life.

Studio7 (Seven) is a musical hub that has two producers who are behind the production of the Black XO School Tour. Malcolm Windvogel is the executive producer and Melvyn Riberts is the creative producer. These two producers are looking to bring the term ‘local is lekker’ to life.

Malcolm Windvogel is also known as ‘The Producer’ (Stylized as the producer) was born in East London, now residing in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg.

Windvogel said, “Genres of music that I producer vary from hip-hop, Rnb, House, Trap to EDM (Electronic Dance Music), all depending on what the prospective client may need.”

He continued, “My main influences are American producers such as Boi-1Da, Pharrell Williams, T-Minus, Ryan Leslie and Kanye West. There are artists outside urban pop culture which have contributed to my sound.

“These artists are Boogie, FKJ (French Kiwi Juice), Shane Eagle, Tom Misch and Goldlink. I recently started a production house comprising of LoobubDJ (Melvyn Riberts) and Chaddy Champu (Chad Williams). We mainly focus on artist development, music production, and recording.”

They also offer to mix and mastering services and musical and lyrical compositions. Last year he released his first instrumental EP titled The Bxat Tape and acted as an executive producer on an EP released under their (Studio7) production house titled ‘The EP’ and most recently acted as a co-producer on KayTaylor’s (Kaylin Jacobs’) TheBlack404 EP.

He added, “I was always interested in music form a very young age, from dancing to Michael Jackson and Chris Brown’s Excuse Me Miss, to eventually joining various dance groups in and around my community, which is Eldorado Park.

“I started focusing on music when I started writing music in 2012. I stopped writing to solely focus on music production in 2014. After a year of unemployment, I joined Eldos FM as a news reader and then became production manager, set in charge of all commercials, jingles and audio promotions.

“Finally, in 2017, I formed my production house called Studio 7 along two close friends in order to secure income as well as to create a whole new market in South Africa for artists looking to experiment with sound. I have worked on projects with artist such as Dean Legacy, DVonJ, BlondZz, IAN LiFe, Slim Kenny and Mace “Money” Treezy.”
