Armed gang make off with loot during daring robbery

Report any criminal activities at your nearest police station or to phone 08600 10111.

The BP filling station in Dobsonville Extension Three was robbed by eight male suspects last Monday at about 3 am.

According to the Dobsonville police spokesperson, Constable Mxwakhe Xazi, about 8 suspects wearing balaclavas armed with pistols entered the filling station.

“The gun-wielding gang pointed their firearms at the staff. They demanded that the staff open the safe room. After gaining entry to the safe, they blew the drop safe with explosives. They made off with an undisclosed the undisclosed amount of cash,” said Xazi.

The suspects also told the petrol attendant to fill their getaway vehicle, which was a Toyota Hilux, with petrol, before fleeing the scene.
He said the men got into their getaway vehicle and fled before police were dispatched.

Xazi said, “No injuries were reported and no one was shot during the incident. Police are concerned about the escalating filling station robberies within the policing precinct.”

“We are working around the clock, trying to bring the perpetrators to book,” said constable Xazi.

He added that in the past few months, more than four filling station holdups were reported and police are still investigating.

“We would like to establish whether the recent filling station robberies are linked and if an armed syndicate is targeting specific filling stations in the area,” said constable Xazi.

He urged residents to report any criminal activities to their nearest police station or to phone 08600 10111.
