Ntsume’s talent gets him a golden opportunity

The 2018 King Edward VII Easter Rugby and Hockey Festival will be taking place from the March 29 to April 2

Simphiwe Ntsume is a 13-year-old boy that attends school at Feed My Lambs Primary School. Ntsume has recently been selected for something that just might change his life forever. He is a teenage boy that plays rugby and he has been selected for an opportunity of a lifetime.

Diedre Patience, one of Ntsume’steachers at the school said that she had always babied him because he was a very child and for some reason, she believes that this significant change and opportunity has finally brought him out of his shell.

Patience said, “Simphiwe has been with me since Grade Two. He was a very very shy child. Rugby actually brought him out of his shell. So I am happy for him and very proud of him that he made it.”

So what is she talking about? What did he make it for?Well, Ntsume had been selected to play for the Golden Lions invitational team.

Assistant coach Jesse Maart said, “Simphiwe is one of my players that have been selected to play for the U13 Golden Lions invitational team at the KES (King Edward’s School) Easter Rugby Festival.

“After two strenuous trials, he managed to fight for his position. The team is currently training at Die Burger Hoorskool. He seems very shy but on the field, the talent glows off him. I started playing rugby three years ago.”

He started playing rugby at a very young age and it has certainly paid off. He said that his parents are super proud of him and that they even bought him a present to show him how proud he has made them.

Over a period of five days, rugby and hockey teams, both juniors and seniors get a chance to showcase their talent and skills. The 2018 King Edward VII Easter Rugby and Hockey Festival, sponsored by Standard Bank will be taking place from the March 29 to April 2.

Originally planned as a once off Festival in 2002, it is now an integral component of the School’s annual calendar. A unique family aura is present at the festival and is sometimes considered an annual excursion for many of the old boys, and friends of the school.
