Las Vegas here she comes

Diana Robertson-Tsotsetsi will be heading Las Vegas to participate in the international Mrs Earth pageant.

Diana Robertson-Tsotsetsi will be heading Las Vegas to participate in the international Mrs Earth pageant. She was crowned Mrs Africa 2018 1st Princess as well as Mrs Africa Tourism Earth 2018 in October 2017.

In the running for Mrs Africa, she participated in over 50 charitable initiatives as part of her journey as a finalist for the pageant. Girl Revolution is an organisation that will soon be launched by Robertson-Tsotsetsi in order to continue with her social responsibility to give back.

She said, “I advocate for girls and the emancipation of woman and therefore established Girl Revolution to be an oasis for girls after school in Eldorado Park and surrounding areas.”

Learners from Grade R to 12 will be participating in art, dance, literacy and mentoring sessions. She further elaborated that, “As a teacher, I know that education is key. Learning does not stop when the school bell rings for home time. It continues at the community centre for the Girl Revolution participants.”

The mentorship programme incorporates female professionals making the time to share their skills, talents, and stories with other girls. The main idea is to keep girls off the streets but also to equip, prepare and assist them to be well rounded and informed women of tomorrow.

The alarming statistics of illiteracy, gender-based violence, drugs and teenage pregnancies are but a few of the ills of society. Initiatives like these are necessary and needed in Eldorado Park.

“I am super proud of the pageantry world and what it is evolving to, it’s no longer about the vain perception but leans towards a broader notion that woman can celebrate who they are and within that celebration, give back to others.

“It might seem to contradict too many that I speak of feminism within pageantry that is dovetailed with communism and capitalism, but the future of pageantry can be changed as woman are slowly becoming more liberal and emancipated.

“As part of Pageants SA, the Mrs Africa pageant was founded by Carolyn Baldwin-Botha is a change agent and woman empowerment movement that I am honoured to be associated with. It changed the direction of my future. My legacy will now be greater,” said Diana.
