WATCH: Riverlea Extension 3 fights against property developers
"We will fight tooth and nail for our community."
After a few days of planning, a group of residents from Riverlea have executed the plan to shut down all roads leading out of Riverlea. Over the weekend, the group decided that they had had enough and that it was time to stand up for the community.
Residents woke up early this morning in protest for the following reasons:
1. The Ward councillor (Basil Douglas) is not active and seen in the community,
2. Illegal connections,
3. Flats to be built in Extension 3,
4. Service Delivery.
WATCH:
The group planned to close off Avon street, Main Reef Road, Commando Road, and Nasrec. The group walked through Riverlea yesterday, asking to the rest of the community to support the cause.
Police were spotted earlier this morning driving around the areas. Many residents left for work very early in the morning to avoid protesters. Traffic was moving slowly in the morning on Main Reef road leading into Zamimpilo informal settlement.
Roads in the area were closed off with rocks and burning tyres but police were spotted clearing the roads and extinguishing the fires.
