Let us work #Aresebetseng

Working together we can do more.

Before the clean-up programme took place in the field next to Boyz Liquor in Eldorado Park Extension Nine on February 17, the field was extremely dirty and needed attention.

As part of the A Re Sebetseng project (Let Us Work) the City of Johannesburg in partnership with various stakeholders took to the streets to clean the field.

Not only did they clean the area, they also planted trees along the road, making the area cleaner and most definitely greener.

Mayor Herman Mashaba said, “A Re Sebetseng is a monthly programme by the City of Johannesburg, to encourage our communities on a monthly basis, on the third Saturday of every month, to ensure that all 135 wards in the City of Johannesburg, take responsibility for their own environment.”

Mashaba got his hands dirty as he and the community planted trees along Boundary Road ensuring a greener environment.

Councillor Peter Rafferty, DA ward councillor for Ward 17 in Eldorado Park, said, “We have a number of sponsors out here, like ABI (Amalgamated Beverage Industries), Urban Wolf that has come on board, various NGOs represented here, but most importantly, residents from Eldorado Park.”

He said that the residents had been present at the clean-up since seven o’ clock in the morning and that they were eager to be a part of the clean-up campaign as part of the A Re Sebetseng project.

He said, “We are grateful and also with the commitment the community has shown, is that this process, they will ensure that the environment stays green and clean.”

Pirtunia Dhlamini from Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) said, “CCBSA is here to support the A Re Sebetseng project because we believe in, what we call our extended producer responsibility.

“We want to bring back the waste that we send out to communities and we want to ensure that we create a greener, cleaner environment and that our future and the future of our children are secured because of that. So we are much privileged to be here and be in partnership with the mayor.”
