Kgotso Motaung is a 27-year-old poet from Central Western Jabavu. He was raised by a single parent, his mother and even though that was the case, it did not allow this situation to stand in the way of his dreams.

Poetic Justice is a 1993 American Romantic movie. The main character is Justice who writes poems which she recites. Motaung was given the name Poetic Justice through his performance and the love of art he has.

The love of being a poet developed when he was still attending at Morris Isaacson High School. In 2008 he started to write poems and express his feelings through poetry. His first piece was published after Matric.

Motaung said, “When I went to tertiary there was a group called Poetic Society which I joined. Poetic Society made me be open-minded. They gave me more ideas because they used to advise us as Poets.”

Majority of parents support their children and wants to see them succeed in life. The parents of Motaung discouraged him from pursuing his dream because they wanted him to follow a different career path.

He said, “Poetry is my life even though I kept on being discouraged by my family and some people who said poetry does not pay. Today I make a living from doing poetry. People started to recognise the love I have for poetry and in every Soweto township, I’m known.”
