Honours evening for the Class of 2017 [PHOTOS]

The class of 2017 have proved that things can change in our community regardless of the social ills.

The class of 2017 from Coronationville Secondary had shocked the community with their 96% pass rate. To honour the class, the parents and the teachers, the schools’ executive board hosted an honours evening to celebrate their achievements.

“I must say thank you to the learners and the teachers and I always say thank you to God. The class of 2017 have proved that things can change in our community regardless of the social ills. They set the bar high for the class of 2018 and the next years too.

“It is a standard that will be hard to match but it also helps us all to work towards 100% pass rate. By far they were the best performing matrics that we had. I am really proud of them for taking on the challenge,” said Cllr Khana Amod, the chairman of the School Governing Body (SGB).

The special evening was attended by the class of 2017, parents, staff, spiritual leaders from the community, Principal Been Robinson and SGB Chairman John Swarts from Westbury High, the Coronationville Secondary’s SGB, donors, Vuyi Cindi the circuit councillor, Ward Councillor Genevieve Sherman and two guest speakers.

“Education is a weapon to better their circumstances. Completing matric does not mean that it is the end of their education, it’s not enough they need to go to tertiary institutions to better themselves.

“They need to live life to express not to impress, they must not strive to make their presence noticed but rather strive to make their absence felt.

“I told them that they need to come back into the community one day and give back. The community needs people who can come back into the community to give back to the people,” said Amod.

Attendees had an early supper with special performances from DaFunc alongside musical items from the Class of 2017. Amod would like to thank Kings Function Hire who gave the school a discount of 35% on table and chair hire for the function.

The chairman would also like to thank the current Grade 12 leaders for assisting in the evening, and all the stakeholders who contributed towards the function.
