Rooting out corruption and crime through hard work

Bareng Taxi Rank's facelift has been welcomed by residents.

The Diepmeadow Taxi Association’s (DTA)ambition of transforming Bareng Taxi Rank into a business area from a spot in which illicit activities were prevalent, is underway.

This is after years of efforts which failed because the criminal activities would resume a few weeks after cleanup operations.

DTA chairperson, Enos Pitsi, said, the past efforts were not realised because the taxi rank would be filled with the same criminal element.
Pitsi said, “We have extended an invitation to the community to occupy business spaces at the taxi rank so that corruption would and crime would be rooted out.”

This was especially welcome news to locals like Eugene Nyuswa who recently resigned from his employment and is looking to open up a business that would not only help him and his family but his community too.

Bareng Taxi Rank seemed a perfect place for Nyuswa to set up his operation since the taxi rank is situated in the heart of Diepkloof and he is part of the community.

Nyuswa said, “Diepkloof is a wonderful community compared to the other communities, the people here are more united and I would like to work with them and my wish is for our youth to succeed.”

According to Nyuswa, he heeded the call to occupy space at the Bareng Taxi Rank in the hope that criminals may vacate the area and turn it into a business hub which unemployed youth could use to spark the entrepreneurial flame which will inevitably see a drop in the crime rate.

Takalani Munangwa, the manager of Nyuswa Motor Mechanics at the Bareng Taxi Rank spoke of how the place has undergone a major transformation and is resembling a business area in stark contrast to what it looked like before the revamp.

Nyuswa said, “The youth must fight for independence and stop using drugs because it only destroys and robs them of their lives.”

Bareng Taxi Rank’s facelift has been welcomed by residents and the DTA is urging prospective business owners interested in setting up shop to visit their offices at the taxi rank.
