Dare2Read SA Foundation to open registrations for the new year on February 10

"Read, Lead and be a Seed"

The Dare2Read SA (D2R) foundation is opening their registrations for the new year on February 10.

The foundation is firmly based on creating opportunities for children using a vital need of reading. “’Words’ are the very purpose of our existence,” said the founder Natalie Goodman.

According to Goodman, last year was a year of many highs and lows but the organisation managed to accomplish their goals for the year.

“I had really great support from parents who were dedicated to change and spend quality time reading to their own children.

“D2R was fortunate to have an opportunity to work with known organisations within the communities because working together is key to building a community,” said Goodman.

This year the foundation will be focused on one-on-one reading sessions for the children with volunteers from the University of Johannesburg. Another thing that the organisation is trying to do is assist families who are unable to purchase stationery.

Goodman added: “We plead for your kind assistance in sponsoring an item or items that may be contributed to a child’s schooling. With much gratitude to all the children who sign up last year thank you once again, it has been a prosperous 2017 with you all.”

With regards to the registration, the team would like for all children to settle into their new classrooms before starting the Child/ Parent Reading Sessions.

Volunteers are also needed to assist learner with reading and activities in the Saturday programmes.

“Commitment is key to establishing a successful organisation, therefore, we need to be structured and disciplined in our attendance,” said Goodman.

The foundation is based on love equality and the right to read, lead and be a seed.

Registrations will be at the Coronationville Library at 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. Dare2Read SA is free to join and is focused on children between the ages of 6 and 18 years old.
