Many little ones started their first year in the school system on January 17. Some were accompanied by their parents whilst others had to face the beginning of their journey alone.
Suraya Lala accompanied her very excited daughter Muneebha Lala to school on her first day at Everest Primary School.
“She was so excited to come to school. She never cried, she was just excited all the way for her first day at school,” said Suraya.
Little Muneebha was full of smiles, neatly dressed in her new school uniform and school bag on her back.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case for all the first-time learners at the school, however, Grade 1 teachers tried their best to keep their new learners calm.
According to the School Governing Body (SGB) of Dowling Primary School, Rupert West, the school kicked off on a smooth note. Principal Monty Sandowns, educators and SGB members were all at school early to ensure that the school was ready to receive learners.
“It was heart-warming to see many parents there to accompany their children on the first day. Dowling Primary learners were met at the school gate, by educators and safety officers. Many learners very brave as they bid farewell to their parents as they stood at the gate to watch their little ones enter the next stage of their life,” said West.

From the SGB of Dowling Primary, they would like to appeal to parents to take an active part in the child’s education.
“Parents have an important role in their child’s career and we ask that they assist the educators in the 12-year journey, children can achieve much more with supportive and interested parents. Without their support and interest their entire future could be compromised,” concluded West.
After all of the excitement, screaming and tears, the first time school goers were settled in their classrooms, waiting for their first lesson.
