Burglar carted off to jail

Burglars never realise the full extent and repercussions of this particular crime.

Burglars never realise the full extent and repercussions of this particular crime.

What matters to them is making off with the loot and selling it virtually gratis to people who are oblivious to the losses suffered by the victim.

It is for this reason that residents are constantly urged to refrain from buying stolen goods. Many things could go wrong during the commission of this crime, and homeowners have to constantly be on their guard so that they too do not fall victim to break-ins.

Proactive residents have resorted to setting up WhatsApp chat groups in which they keep each other informed about suspicious element, cars and behaviour and report these to police who will have enough information to apprehend perpetrators of this crime.

Last week, a 24-year-old man was arrested by Eldorado Park police after he committed a string of burglaries in Freedom Park.

According to communications officer, Phillemon Khorombi, the suspect was pointed out by the complainant after he handed himself over to police.

Khorombi said, “When the suspect realised that the police were hot on his heels, he proceeded to the police station where the complainant
pointed him out and he was arrested on the spot.”

The man was detained at the Eldorado Park Police Station holding cells and investigations into the crime is continuing.

Police are urging residents to report any suspicious elements within the community and to stop buying stolen goods in an effort to deter burglars from thinking that this is a crime of opportunity which has no victims.
