Do you know about the Second Chance Matric Programme?

The department will continue to provide support to learners that opted to write exams in December and June or modularised. In addition, the Second Chance Matric Programme is in place to afford those that seek to rewrite their matric another opportunity.

We urge all our matriculants to note the following important information:

  • Result queries should be submitted for investigation within 30 days after the release of the results.
  • Candidates should report any inaccuracies on their statements of result before June 30, 2018.
  • The deadline for rechecking/re-marking of scripts is the January 19, 2018.
  • The deadline to register for supplementary exams is January 19, 2018.

The Gauteng City Region Academy and the Tshepo 1 million programme will automatically enrol 14 458 learners that did not pass the National Senior Certificate in their database.

They will be assisted to find jobs, learnership and entrepreneur opportunities. Any young person residing in Gauteng can register on these databases and the address for the Tshepo 1 million programme is www.tshepo.mobi



The Gauteng Provincial Government has been providing bursaries to all the top three learners in no-fee township schools.

In light of recent pronouncement on free higher education, the department will monitor the situation a take a decision. However, finance will be provided for all returning students that have been provided bursaries by the Gauteng Department of Education.
