Soweto Urban editors congratulate the class of 2017

Congratulations to the class of 2017.

Mark Scheepers [Editor]

Congratulations to the class of 2017. It has been a long and difficult journey but your hard work and tenacity have been rewarded. The future is yours to do with as you wish but remember that hard work is needed there too.

Nothing in this world is promised and whatever it is you desire, can only be achieved if you’re willing to work and sweat for it. Trust me, it means more to drive a car or live in a beautiful home you’ve worked for rather than being handed on a silver platter

Remember: What you give you get to keep, what you fail to give you lose forever. The key to a good night’s rest is a clear conscience. Love. Give back. Be kind. Practise Gratitude.

To those who haven’t made it – IT’S NOT OVER. This is, but, a detour in your life story, not the end of the road. I know it’s tough. I know your disappointment and sadness feels insurmountable – give it time.

Be kind to yourself. Be gentle with yourself. Commit to trying again. Don’t give up. The most successful people in the world became the most successful because they faced the most challenges and had to pick themselves up over and over again.

You have within you the ability and resilience to overcome this and to not be defined by it but to have it be the point from which your life took flight.

I would like to congratulate the class of 2017 on the occasion of completing their 12 years of schooling. The class of 2017 has displayed nothing but dedication and hard work towards their studies.

Once again congratulations and good luck to all those who have passed and will be going to institutions of higher education this year.

Those who did not make it should remember that this is not the end of the world but they still have a chance to try again this year.

We live in uncertain times and our country is hard hit by a number of crises; on the political, economic and education fronts.

Our education system has come under fire from a number of quarters and South Africa is ranked at the bottom of the heap, which highlights the need for serious reforms.

President Zuma’s announcement that tertiary education would be free has opened up a can of worms, drawing criticism from some sectors and creating a sense of relief for those who may not otherwise have access to further education in our country.

While this debate rages on, Soweto Urban would like to extend their congratulations to those matriculants who have made it and are about to embark on the next chapter in their lives. To the matriculants who have not made it, we would like to encourage you to get up, dust yourselves off and take on the challenge again this year.
