Give thanks to the elderly

Elderly abuse is very common in communities. People who are on substance abuse usually stay with their elderly and tend to take advantage of the kind hearts that they have been blessed with. Besides wisdom the elderly have many experiences that they have suffered and for others not to go through the same things, lessons can be taught.

The elderly in the Greater Eldorado Park community has inspired many to go out into the community and go and be the change that they would like to see. To say thank you to the community, the leadership in the community gave the elderly trolley packs on Tuesday, December 19. Many stakeholders from the community, such as Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC), South African Police Services (SAPS) and other stakeholders, all took part in the trolley give away process.

Councillor Fazel Jaffer said, “We are distributing the last of our trolley packs, which is part of the programme for the elderly; we hope that they enjoy it. We want to wish them a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year and in the new year, on behalf of the council’s side we have a lot of plans in terms of launching our elderly forum and from next year onwards, we are going to work with one vigor, one spirit in the community. We are going to unite our elders and we are saying no more elderly abuse and not in our name.”

Barry Makue said, “On behalf of the Jewels Senior Citizens Club, I Barry Makue, the chairperson, hereby expresses our gratitude towards our council for donating the trollies for our elderly. I am sure they will appreciate it very much. Thank you so much.”
