Celebrating a century in style

Nomalanga Hlatshwayo celebrates her 100-years birthday.

It is not every day a century birthday is celebrated in a person’s lifetime, however, Nomalanga Hlatshwayo celebrated her 100-years birthday held at Kupheleni Street in S’godiphola last Saturday.

Speaking at this milestone event, Mariam Zwane reminded mothers to be a role model to their children.

“It starts with us mothers who are constantly disrespectful towards our husband in front of the children. Now is the right time for women to repent and educate their children important values for them to outdo Hlatswayo lifespan record.

“She lived until this age because she obeyed a fundamental principle of respecting her parents, husband and the elders,” said Zwane.

Vuyo Funerals representative Sibongile Zikalala handed over policy certificate to Hlatswayo.

“We are giving her a free policy certificate as Vuyo Funerals. In case God remembers her one day, the family should rush to our offices. We promised to do all arrangements and bury her free of charge.

“It is for the first time in my life history to see a person who is 100-years-old. My God continue to bless her with many more years to come,” said Zikalala.

Vuyo Funerals also sponsored Hlatswayo with the 100-years birthday cake all expenses paid. Neighbour Easter Ndaba said this is the day God has made possible. She said only a few people live to celebrate this day.

“I thanked the children of Hlatswayo for taking care of their mother. As a former nurse, we use to conduct home visits. We experienced situations whereby senior citizens who are beyond 70-years-old are often being locked inside the house while their children are away at work.

“However, it is not the case with Hlatswayo as her family constantly taking care of her,” added Ndaba.

She thanked the birthday organisers for the splendid work done in making the event possible. Ndaba also thanked Hlatswayo for taking care of her grandchild while still in her infant stages.

She thanked granny Hlatshwayo for instilling basic principles and teaching her grandchild respect during her infant stages.

Ndaba also urges people to refrain from eating junk food for them to surpass and live beyond 100 years.

Ward 47 Community Development 2 leader Carol Kodisa said mothers who spare the rod spoil their children.

Rubycon new owner Kieth Thabo donated R1000 to Hlatshwayo, wishing her many more years to live under the sun. Rubycon (formerly known as Sedibeng) will be hosting lunch for Soweto senior citizens on December 13. Thabo promised Soweto senior citizens to give them a five-star treatment for free on that day, all expenses paid by Rubycon.
