#SundayRECAP: Christmas Charity Fun Day at FWC

To participate in this Christmas event to raise funds for FWC Hospice, please call 011 837 2999 or 072 214 4801.

The Family Worship Centre (FWC) on the corner of Harmony and Hursthill Streets will be hosting their Christmas Charity Fun Day on December 9.

The facility is one of workshops, training, and it also has a hospice programme which has been running for the past eight years.

In the last article of the FWC Hospice, we mentioned that the institution provides care which is specific to the patient they admit.

FWC only admits adults with life-limiting illnesses including those suffering from cancer, patients suffering from HIV/Aids stage 4, strokes, and dementia.

The facility holds 50 beds with their major focus on palliative and frail care, referrals to other agencies and professionals, speech and physical rehabilitation services, social programmes for families and patients, volunteer companionship, transportation, respite care, arts and crafts activities, symptoms and pain management, group therapy, grief and spiritual counselling.

However, it’s primary purpose is to provide an alternative to hospital and home-based care for the terminally ill. FWC Hospice health care professionals offer a 24-hour specialised knowledge and support at the end of life care.

The institution is said to be a home away from home where sick people come to be taken care of.

According to organisers, the purpose of the Christmas event is to raise funds for FWC Hospice. It was inspired by the many donations from people who give to Hospice.

Organiser Valencia said, “We want to sell it to raise funds and this opens the opportunity to open a charity shop at our Hospice. This is the first time that we will be having this and definitely not the last.

There will be a lot of fun and also bargains. We are going to have a 5-a side soccer, previously loved clothing, food stalls, fun and games for children and adults, and the big one is, a movie under the stars (which will be a movie in our parking area with popcorn, cokes and candy for sale).

For more information, call 011 837 2999 or 072 214 4801.
