‘Nothing is impossible with a vision and a plan’

Anyone willing to help with Rosekruge's vision may contact her on 078 126 5246 or 079 102 5157.

Hair is her passion.

To go anywhere in life, you have to start at the bottom. If you have a vision and a plan which you can put into action, anything is possible. Cheryl Roskruge is one of those people who did just that.

Roskruge said, “I started doing hair at the age of 18.”

She is 53 years old, which means that she has been doing hair for more than half her life.

She continued, “I worked at a salon called Dee’s Unisex Hair Salon. I went on my own 35 years ago and started by using Colgate shampoo and conditioner from a flat in Extension One. Not long afterwards I started using my sister’s garage on Concorde Street.”

She bought a house 17 years ago and said, “I am working from home. I taught my two daughters how to do hair and now one of them has her very own hair salon called Sammy Tee’s.”

Roskruge has the vision to change the lives of the community by teaching them the fine art of hairstyling.

She said, “My vision is that I would like to teach substance dependent persons and the youth in the community how to do hair.”

She is calling on on the councillors and all entities that are working with substance abuse victims to help her get the ball rolling.

She said, “I’m not just going to teach people how to do hair, but I would also like to teach boys and girls how to become a barber and show them the different techniques that can be used.”

Part of the work that she has done was teaching people with special needs how to do hair.

She said, “I worked at Don Mattera and I taught the beneficiaries the skills required to do hair and many of those I taught are now working in salons.”

Alicia Nieuwveldd is one of Roskruge’s proteges and she said, “I enjoy doing hair and helping people. I feel happy when a client is pleased with the work that I have done on their heads.

The skills that I was taught allowed me to generate my own income and put those skills to good use at Cheryl’s Salon in Eldorado Park Extension One.”

Cheryl Rosekruge dreams of imparting her skills to others.
