Gogo Nomalanga reaches a century

It is not every day a human being reaches a 100th birthday in his or her lifetime. Nomalanga Hlatshwayo, like her name, has lived 100 years under the son which is a milestone that only the few could emulate her.
It is because of such a greatest feat residents of Sgodiphola, are joining hands to host Hlatshwayo’s 100-birthday celebration on December 2.
“My actual birthday is on June 6. That was the time I actually made my 100 birthday this year. However, I’m pleased that they are hosting my birthday celebration while still alive,” said Hlatswayo.
God has blessed her with 14 children, 45 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Despite her milestone, Hlatshwayo is not having any health complications suffered by senior citizens.

“I’m not a regular clinic patient. My husband died in early 1880,” said Hlatswayo.
Her grandchild Nonhlanhla Hlatshwayo said her grandmother was born in Free State and relocated to Soweto many years ago. She said her grandmother outlived all her siblings.
Ward 47 Community Development One-member Millicent Zondo acknowledges that it is important to host gogo Hlatshwayo’s birthday celebration while still alive despite the fact that the actual birthday has already passed five months ago.
She said she is one of the few senior citizens in the ward that has reached a 100-year birthday mark. Zondo urged the residents of Ward 47 who are interested in partnering with them in making this event a success to come forward.
Vuyo Funerals Operational Manager Nkateko Mabindisa promised to be part of the celebration.
They promised to purchase the birthday cake for the old lady, give gogo Hlatshwayo a free funeral policy and help in whatever way in making her special day a memorable event.
Local fashion designer Alerta Mashao is hard at work designing a dress for gogo Hlatshwayo. The 100-birthday celebration will be hosted on December 2 at her house in S’godiphola.
Senior citizens from Ward 47 are invited to participate in this huge birthday celebration.
