As we reach the end of 2017 we decided to look back on the best beauty trends of the year, calling for the help of a master in the industry to guide us along.
We enlisted the advice of popular makeup artist, beauty YouTuber and content creator, Mihlali Ndamase.
The 21-year-old beauty influencer and social media mogul shared her top three favourite beauty trends of the year with some insight into how we can achieve them.

Mihlali’s third pick for the year is monochromatic eyeshadow makeup application.
“The best way to achieve this trend is through blending, It’s an important technique to use during makeup application,” she said.
The bold makeup look can be vivid or neutral. “It can be done with vibrant colours like your pinks, corals and pearls,” said Mihlali.
The makeup artist’s second pick for beauty trend of the year is the appearance of a natural or ‘skin-like’ foundation finish that leaves users with a natural glow.
“You apply your foundation in a way that looks like you are wearing little-to-no foundation,” said Mihlali.
“I think it’s a very beautiful look to wear in summer because you want to have a natural glow,” she continued.

Mihlali’s top pick and ultimate makeup favourite for 2017 is gloss-specifically glossy lids. An out-the-ordinary trend made famous by Rihanna and Kylie Jenner, amongst other A-list celebrities.
“Lip gloss has been an ongoing yet subtle trend for ages. Now it has evolved by being used on the eyelids,” she said.
“I personally love and embrace this trend because of its versatility. One can wear it with neutral or pastel colours (eyeshadow), as well as bright, vibrant colours,” said Mihlali.

To achieve this glossy look, you simply need to lightly dab tiny amounts of clear lip gloss onto your eyelids with a cotton bud once you have completed your eye-shadow and eyeliner application.
“Glossy eyelids have been a top trend of late,” she said.
These three beauty and makeup trends have gotten the green light from Mihlali to make the transition into 2018 with the rest of us.
