Vukuzenzele: NHBRC empowers Eldorado Park community

Learning how to fish.

Many people in the community complain about the lack of opportunities available in Eldorado Park.

In most cases, the reason for that might be because the community is unaware of the opportunities.

Well, here is an opportunity for you to make a difference in your own life and take the skills that you can get from such an opportunity.

What opportunity do you ask? Well, the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) has something for you. They don’t just bring the fish; they teach you how to be a fisherman.

They have many Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) accredited courses in different categories that are required when building a house.

They are the regulators when it comes to building, more so, if you say that you’re a builder, you have to be registered with NHBRC said Richard Rink from the organisation.

The courses are conducted in Eldorado Park Extension Four at the Swimming Pools where the military veterans’ offices are.

A military veteran, Isaac Wilson said, “As a veteran myself, there are very few veterans and the community are unaware of this.

“We would like to encourage more veterans and the extended community to join. We are currently busy with the third course, a plumbing course, and we are honoured.

“There are many guys who are working now. They started here with the first brick-laying course. We are proud to have people like Richard Rink on board as well as the military veterans’ board office and councillor Fazel Jaffer, who made it possible.”

These skills that are taught in the pools aren’t just for the experience; Rink said that there are also three exit opportunities. The three exit opportunities are employment, further education and a possibility to set up your own company.

Hard labour can be extremely tiring and can really stir up an appetite. Luckily for the guys at the pools, they have a few ladies who make sure their tummies stay full.

Chris Isaacs said, “I need to say thank you to the women of the military veterans for assisting the guys who are part of the course with feeding them. We as vets appreciate what they are doing for us.”
