A full blast of colour for the Two

"We are basically trying to raise funds to restore the grounds in Extension Two, which we hope to turn into a sporting facility for the kids."

The Extension Two grounds used to be a place for “spieners” to strip stolen cars. They would strip the cars and just leave the shells in the field.

Moeniera Daniels and the coaching team from Little Eagles Football Club (LEFC) took it upon themselves to clean up the grounds and make a difference. What started as just a clean-up grew into a vision to completely revamp the area.

To raise funds as a token of appreciation to the LEFC team as well as to begin the revamping process of the field, Daniels and the LEFC team hosted a Family Fun Day on Saturday, October 29.

Daniels said, “We are basically trying to raise funds to restore the grounds in Extension Two, which we hope to turn into a sporting facility for the kids. So we are having a flea market set-up, we have jumping castles and a day of fun for the residents.”

Prior to the flea market fun day, they also had a colour run which she described as fun. She added a thank you note to all those who came out to support and to those who provided donations.

Gabriel Jacobs, an LEFC member, said, “We started this clean-up because these grounds were used as a dumping site.” The grounds are being revamped because Jacobs believes that what they want to achieve will turn the children from the community away from the social ills within the community.

Many people believe that the foreign local house shops do not give back to the community but, according to Naaym Hardien from the sector two block committee, that is not the case here.

He said, “The sector two block committee is doing a lot of work by looking after the community. We also feed kids up to three times a week. We get some sponsors from the local house shops, where your ‘Somalian’ shops are.

They are giving back to the community, is something we encourage them to do.” They also receive sponsors from the Spar in Extension Two and other businesses.
