Bus destroys 3 cars, a wall and leaves 9 passengers injured in a crash in Dobsonville

"Putco must pay up."

A Putco bus ferrying commuters to work travelling along the Main Road Streets in Dobsonville collided with a white Toyota Quantum, leaving nine passengers severely injured.

The bus driver lost control and headed straight to Gideon Hlotywa’s residence situated alongside the Main Road.

The bus further flattened the gate, wall, outside room, and other three cars parked inside the yard.

The Hlotywa family were suddenly awakened by a loud bang when the incident happened [Wednesday].

It was in the early hours of the morning at about 4.45 am. A tenant at Hlotywa’s residence Oscar Lebepe rushed out to see for himself. Lebepe worked as a paramedic, on the day of the accident he was off duty.

“I rushed to the taxi to give commuters medical attention. Nine of them were injured, but three were the most affected including the taxi driver.

“When the on-duty paramedics and traffic officials arrived, they took the victims to the hospital for medical attention.

“When I went back inside the yard, I was surprised that my Polo car which I recently bought two months ago was completely destroyed by the bus.

“Luckily, the insurance company later came to tow the vehicle,” said Lebepe.

Gideon Hlotywa, the spokesperson for the house, cited that they did not yet establish the extent of the damage.

“Three cars parked inside our premise namely a Polo, BMW, Audi A4, the wall and one outside room were damaged. The injured passengers were rushed to the hospital and no deaths reported.

He said Putco representatives were dispatched to the scene and they assessed the situation and promised to come back later.

Hlotywa said Putco company must come back to pay up for the damages incurred.
