Yoga at Thokoza Park

It's a community programme to bring awareness on health and wellbeing.

Yoga was a breeze for many.

Yoga is refreshing on its own, add doing yoga at a park, now that is refreshing on a whole new level.

Young women and children braved the morning chill last week Saturday at Thokoza Park, Rockville as Phumla Shongwe, the yoga instructor who has been practising yoga for 13 years, got to teach them how to twist their bodies into good health.

The purpose of the yoga programme was to create awareness on health and wellbeing.

”The whole idea is to get people out of their houses and off their couches. We spend so much time inside the house or inside our offices that we forget how vital it is to just get out on the weekend, feel the fresh air and mobilise the body.

It’s a community programme to bring awareness on health and wellbeing and yoga is about that,” said Shongwe.

”I’ve been practising yoga for 13 years. I did my yoga teacher training in 2011 so I’ve been teaching for 6 years now. It started as a hobby while I was still in corporate then I decided to leave in 2014 to do yoga full time and I absolutely love it.”

Shongwe stated that the one thing she wished everybody knew about yoga is that it is for everyone, it is not a religion or a certain cultural related aspect that excludes certain people because of any belief system.
