The first ever dog show in Soweto took place at Mofolo Park where dog lovers came strapped with their dear dogs on the leash to learn more about caring for them.

The dog show was brought to the community of Jabavu by the Mars Petcare which is known for brands such as Pedigree and Whiskas besides its sister company, Royal Canin.

They have partnered with the Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre (SARAC), Takealot.com and Paws pet shop in Soweto to host an outreach program in celebration of World Animal Day.

The pet-loving community of Soweto was invited to the community outreach program at Mofolo Park Soweto where the goal of was to engage with pet owners and engage them about nutrition and how to care for their pet.

Vets were on site at the event to perform free health screenings, vaccinations, and dog dipping for free for all dogs that come to the event.

Mars and Royal Canin hoped to vaccinate at least 200 dogs through the course of that day.

Tumi Masekela the Corporate Affairs Director for Sub-Saharan Africa expressed their delightful surprise to the fact that the local pet owners really took care of their dogs, she said, “We are really proud to have connected with Sowetans and the dogs look really good and well taken care of.”

Pet owners had a fun-filled day including the SAPS dog unit demonstration, a dog breed show and lots more.

“Mars and Royal Canin are committed to educating South Africans about the importance of proper pet nutrition and responsible pet ownership,” said Tumi Masekela, Corporate Affairs Director, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Royal Canin Marketing Manager, Tarryn Day said, “World Animal Day gives us the perfect opportunity to partner with amazing groups like SARAC, and give pet owners the motivation to feed their pets with high-quality pet food and keep their pets healthy and happy.”

Soweto pet owners will be happy to know that the first pet shop in Soweto has just opened in Mofolo in conjunction with Royal Canin.

Day said, “This is a first for Soweta residents and one that we hope will grow further to ensure that cats and dogs receive the right nutrition and have a choice of foods to suit their pet’s age, breed, and lifestyle.”

Mthetho said, “My dogs are so happy and healthy because I keep them on a strict diet routine.”
