Slovoville gravel roads to be ameliorated

R55 million tarring project in progress.

Ward 53 Councillor Mthokozisi Dhlamini is upbeat about the progress attained so far in the ongoing tarring of roads at Slovoville which started last year.

According to councillor Dhlamini, the objective of the project is to make sure that the entire Slovoville is tarred soon.

“This tarring project has two phases and the first phase cost about R30 million. The first phase will be tarring about 14 streets in Slovoville and second phase cost a total of R25 million. The Second Phase will tar about seven streets in Slovoville,” explained councillor Dhlamini.

The first and second phase will be complete by mid next year. Phase One of the construction employed a total of 80 local labourers and 14 sub-constructors.

Councillor Dhlamini said they trained 80 Phase One local labourers who will receive accredited certificates for paving and cubing.

Councillor Mthokozisi Dhlamini happy about streets construction.

“For Phase Two, 42 local labourers were employed and the number will gradually increase.

“We also trained local subcontractors for entrepreneur skills on tendering and bill of quantities.

“Additional 42 labourers on cubing, pipe laying and paving will be trained.

“They will also be issued with the accredited certificates after completing their respective course,” said councillor Dhlamini.

He said next year about 60 percent of Slovoville township will be fully tarred and both sides of each street will have walkways and operational stormwater drains.

Councillor Dhlamini promised that Phase Three of the tarring process of the roads will kickstart after the completion of Phase One and Two.
