Itereleng Community Health Centre in Dobsonville open 24 hours

Itereleng Community Health Centre (ICHC).

Itereleng Community Health Centre (ICHC) opened its doors 24 hours and seven days per week from October 2.

ICHC facility manager Nomkhosi Mosala said they had several complaints from the public requesting that they should open their doors for 24 hours daily.

“Our centre caters for Braamficherville, S’godiphola, Meadowlands and surrounding areas daily. Initially, we were operating from 7am-16pm Monday to Saturday.

“On Sundays and during public holidays our clinic was non-operational, but now things have changed as we are operating every day,” said Mosala.

She said emergency services including children, car accident, stab and gunshot wounds will be prioritised by the centre.

On October 2, people were not aware that they had started operating 24 hours and seven days per week.

Matron Mosala cited that they had fully trained and well-equipped staff, Primary Health Care Nurses and medical doctors available at night ready to provide their services.

Itereleng Community Health Centre is the third clinic in Soweto to be converted to a Community Health Centre namely, Lilian Ngoyi ChC, Itereleng CHC and Chiawelo CHC.

Ward 47 councillor Tebogo Mhlari thanked the Gauteng Government for listening to the plea made by the public of having the clinic operating 24 hours per day.

She said at night people often battles to access medical treatment because the clinic was not operational.

Councillor Mhlari reminded residents that their rights to have access to a clinic 24 hours a day goes with a huge responsibility.

“We should at all time guard against those who are vandalising such facilities or stealing medication. People should report such bad elements living within our society.

“Patients who felt they have been neglected they should report to the facility manager and their complaints will be addressed properly.” said councillor Mhlari.

She added that after 16:00 the clinic will only cater for emergency services only including children.

Councillor Mhlari said people should forward their input on how they could improve the clinic service for the benefit of the community.
