‘If the drugs don’t kill you, the lifestyle will’

'Negative Role Models'.

After 24 years of substance abuse and addiction, Rafeeq Ferguson is fully recovered and has made it his mission to fight against drugs.

“I’ve recently started a non-profit company called Khuluma Ed-diction. I do recovery coaching and drug counselling. Khuluma Ed- diction also sources funds to put underprivileged people into rehab where they can rehabilitate with dignity,” said Ferguson.

He dedicated a piece titled ‘Negative Role Models’ it to those who are setting a bad example as role-models to today’s generation.

An excerpt from his spoken word piece reads: ‘I look at all the young generation of today, being hooked on dagga and hookah and becoming tik and cat addicts, robbers and gang members.

All dying an ending up going to sun city prison to do time. They’re out there dying, being used and abused, and yet they’re being accused of the things they do not do.

But who are their role models?

The ‘cheese’ boys. Yes, the pretty boys with all the fancy toys, all the choice girls, with the slick hair, the fly clothes and necks full of gold, yes, you play your role.

I look and I see, all they want to do is give up their soul to play that role. If you look and pay enough attention you’ll see its all real.

All the young generation are all playing a role, not knowing where all their young lives go!

Seana got knocked off yesterday for a ginsa. They say,” Oh, it’s so sad, another sucker has been had”.

Gavin goes to his ouma and tries to escape, but got shot in the head, just as he reached the rank!

Doris got strung out on drugs; she became a tik addict; the other night her heart stopped, now she’s dead.

Joey sniffed ‘cat’ and ‘tik’; found on the flats stairs dead. For no tears were shed, but the guy’s poor mother’s heart bled. The young generation of today all confused and lost, with no sense of direction, and they pay no attention!

We see little Dice smoking dagga and drinking a Black Label. And they say, “Kyk daai laaitie, he’s gonna be like his brother!”
Fat Cat was his brother!! Where are their role model’s hearts and pride?

Another young brother just died, and they just walk by and continued to get bogus.

Our young generation of today think they can make it in that lifestyle, just as they did, but half of them are dead and the other half are in jail or bogus walking around in a dead world.
