The much talked about Red Bull Culture Clash South Africa 2017 was a truly a hit, not only with music lovers but with artists as well.

The biggest music clash to ever hit our shores was held at the Orlando Stadium on the weekend of September 23.

Four sound systems were up against each other for bragging rights and top honours. AKA the Super Mega was leading Top Boyz which were up against Durban Massacre which was led by DJ Tira AKA Makoya Berings, Patoranking led Red Hot Sound System while Admiral & Jahseed were at the helm of the African Storm.

The four teams had four rounds to battle it out and the fans had the biggest task of being the Judges.

When the dust settled the following morning, Gqom had prevailed making DJ Tira and his Durban Massacre champions.

The show was hosted by Hosts Siyabonga ‘Scoop Makhathini’ Ngwekazi and Thapelo Mokoena who kept the heat on even when the artists had left the stage.

Even though the event was about the battle between the four sound systems, it ended up being the biggest African music festival.

Fans were surprised when artists like Davido, Riky Rick and Jub Jub jumped on stage and for surprise performances. Durban Massacre showed from the first round that they meant business when they called on Mgarimbe on stage to perform the unofficial national anthem Sister Bettina.

“Winning this title means a lot to me because it shows people that Gqom and Durban house is here to stay, and will dominate and shape future sounds.

“That’s all we ever wanted to do – stay true to ourselves and where we come from. We gave people what they wanted and they responded to the genuine, heartfelt music we shared.

“That’s what it’s all about and we are proud to solidify our sound further. Thanks to the music lovers and supporters, it wouldn’t be possible without them,” said DJ Tira after being crowned champion.
