Jozi popping to Warhol’s art

The artist's creations have been described as "comic, decorative and whimsical.

Since July 27, the Wits Art Museum, also known as WAM, played host to an exhibition of Andy Warhol’s Bank of America Merrill Lynch artwork collection.

The iconic New York illustrator gained acclaim for his pop art screenprints, which feature the likes of pop culture’s most idolised figures, including Marilyn Monroe and Muhammad Ali.

Warhol also depicted fictional characters and consumer goods in his artworks, such as in the famous Campbell’s Soup Cans (1962) painting.

The exhibition will conclude on October 8th and presents over 80 of Warhol’s screenprints. A reported 18 000 people have already visited the exhibition.

It is open to the public and entrance is free of charge.
