Claremont: Our youth beating the odds

Love, kindness and positivity

The Claremont community celebrated their annual Claremont Talent Show with ‘Against All Odds’, which is a registered non-profit organisation, on September 25.

The youth of the community had the privilege of showcasing their talent by participating in soccer, dancing, singing and modelling.

According to one of the organisers, Karen Welcome, the show was not only to have fun but to embrace our kids by showing them love, kindness and positivity.

Welcome said, “We also had a panel of judges to motivate our youth by letting them know that we should not let any bad situation within our lives define who we are or determine our future, but rather to use it as a benchmark or platform to do greater things in life.”

The organisation also had this fun day to teach the youth to love and accept themselves for who they were and not to seek approval from other people or any group of wrongdoers to feel accepted.

The organisers also set out to build a trust relationship-not only with the youth who participated-but also with the parental support of this positive initiative.

“We believe that by working together we can do more and a child in sport is a child out of court,” said Welcome.

The youth were taught to believe in themselves so that they could achieve more and always put their best foot forward.

“The founder of Against All Odds, Charleen Lodewyk has a vision for the youth to have an aftercare centre to empower them more. We are all parents and want the best for our children. We congratulate Miss Claremont 2017, Brittney Randles,” said Welcome.
