Music is more of a calling to me

"People think that our careers as DJs are not that important and it's all about having fun, but it's deeper than that. I think some things just come naturally and more of a calling"

Tumi Maseko from Protea Glen Extension Four is a versatile individual in the entertainment sphere.

His music devotion took him from just being a DJ and he is now an events coordinator for his own gigs.

Maseko embarked on his musical journey in 2011 while he was doing his second year at the secondary level, Trinity Secondary school where he completed his matric.

“People think that our careers as DJs is not that important and it’s all about having fun, but it’s deeper than that. I think some things just come naturally and more of a calling.

I am glad that I am in entertainment forte, I’m doing what I love. When I DJ it feels more like a lifestyle than being on duty,” stated Tumi Maseko.

Maseko indicated that he started his musical journey at a very young age and he is now living his dreams. “My second year in high school level I got tired of being a bedroom DJ and I started hosting events which were motivated by Euphoniks’ saying “if you can’t get gigs, then do gigs”.

“I must say that was one of the best inspiration words which gave birth to Tumi I am today,” indicate 21-year-old Maseko.

Maseko stated that he always believed in himself and always wanted to stand out from his peers and that turned him to compete with himself to be a better DJ he is today.

“I started deejaying as a house music DJ and I got bored along the way as I wanted to stand out from my competitors especially my peers. There are lots of houses DJs in our locals so I drifted to hip-hop which I was inspired by Black Coffee’s mixes. And nothing can stand in my way except my self,” says Maseko.
