Wanting to express emotion can best described through actions or words, but finding a way to connect with an audience through action and words have proven to be a talent worth celebrating.
With the title of the show derived from the emotion and headspace that expressions can lead to, ‘Word Intoxication’ was a show of the wordsmiths.
Featuring singers, rappers and poets, the show exposed a vast range of raw talent expressed through real-life stories.
Being the third time that the show is being hosted, the show first started in July with its debut and launched taking place at Cantare Monte Casino.
“One of the reasons why we decided to put together the show is that we realised that there aren’t enough spaces where such talents can be showcased.
“A lot of the time, people would host shows with the idea of exposing talent or making money so the obvious route is to get a famous or commercial artist or poet, but the content they share doesn’t speak to the audience like it should,” said Khenzor.
Some of the artists featured include Spartz (Singer), Ndlovukazi (Singer), Hype (Rapper), Tshepo Molefi (Poet), Emma Mabye (Poet), KayBee (Poet) and Nostalgic (Poet) to name a few.
“For the longest time, I’ve found a deep connection to music and i have learnt that music and poetry can resonate emotions that I would be able to conventionally express.
“So since then, I’ve always loved live poetry up until I came across a guy after a show who asked me why don’t I make my own show to cater for a specific market and that’s how we started the Word Intoxication.
“The idea here is that the spoken word has the ability to leave your mind intoxicated and that is the focus of the content we deliver in our shows,” she said.
The next word intoxication event will be published soon. Keep your eyes peeled.
