Move over, Machedda’s on the scene

Given “Machedda” Makhetha (23) hails from Klipspruit West, Extension Two and describes herself as an example of what soul, intelligence and beauty is.

Makhetha is the youngest in a family of of five children and her mother, Emily Damons is a pastor at a local church.

Damons played a great role in her upbringing, supporting her in her role as spiritual dancer at the local church.

She continued her dancing career after joining forces with a dance group called 2legitt from 2014 until the end of 2015.

Makhetha has danced for the likes of Peter “P-square” Okoye, Dbanj and Damini “Burna boy” Ogulu. “Although I have a good dance career, I always felt like I could do something more,” she said.

In the beginning of last year she started her studies in the sound engineering field at Southwest Media College, where she is busy completing her diploma in sound engineering and studio work.

“Being a producer isn’t easy, especially when you are a female. Sometimes it’s scary because you’re the only girl in the room full of really talented rappers and they depend on you to make a dope beat.”

“There’s no girl who has done what I’ve done in South Africa. Vocalists can easily be inspired by singers like Beyoncé or Busi, but when you’re a beat maker, there is no blueprint,” she said.

Makhetha is now a beat maker and producer. One of her recent collaborations was working with a rapper called Jab, all the way from the Eastrand.

“Working with Jab was a lot of fun. There was always laughter when he was around,” she said.

According to the two, their new offering titled The only one is slated to be a summer anthem which talks about being with the one you truly love.

The track is produced by Machedda and was dropped on September 15.
