Fumbling felons nabbed by vigilant police

Police successes

Crime has increased exceedingly within the community of Eldorado Park, but more so along the R553 Golden Highway. One would expect crime to be non-existent on a road as busy as this one.

On Friday, September 8, a man walking along the Golden Highway was attending to a phone call when he was approached from behind.

According to captain Phillemon Khorombi of the Eldorado Park South African Police Service (SAPS), the men produced a firearm and hit the victim on the back of the head with an unknown object.

After being assaulted the victim was relieved of his cell phone and watch.

The Eldorado Park SAPS was alerted and rushed to the scene where they were only able to apprehend one of the men (25) after he tried evading arrest.

Many people in Eldorado Park are living on a day-to-day budget and some are unable to afford the basics like bread to survive. Residents and shop owners have built a trust relationship and extend credit to regular customers.

According to Khorombi, a 60-year-old suspect was arrested for pointing a firearm at a shop owner. On September 9, the shop owner was serving the 60-year-old man who demanded goods or food on credit.

When the shop owner refused, he threatened the victim and started pointing his weapon at the shop owner who reported the incident at the Eldorado Park Police Station.

The man was apprehended and detained at the Eldorado Park Police Station holding cells.

It is not uncommon for siblings to have an argument every once in a while. More often than not you would expect the brother to overreact, but not this time.

In this case, the victim of a case of malicious damage to property was a male. The suspect, however, is the victim’s sister.

According to Khorombi, the sister damaged the door at her brother’s house after a heated argument.

The 33-year-old woman was arrested shortly after the incident and taken into police custody.
