Councillor Mhlari report to the public

20 local labourers were placed and 67 locals are still waiting to be placed at the newly Pick’n Pay store at Dobsonville Mall

Ward 47 Councillor Tebogo Mhlare hosted a public meeting at Samuel Mangala Primary School in a bid to tackle some of the residents’ concerns and outline a way forward.

The meeting was also attended by officials from Johannesburg Water, Eskom, Pikitup and Health who were willingly giving advice to the public about their range of services.

Speaking to residents councillor Mhlari said they are under coalition administration and some of the changes made affect service delivery negatively and make it difficult to provide effective service delivery e to the people.

“Despite the dynamics of coalition administration, we are striving to go an extra mile not to fail the constituency who voted for us.

“We have combined administration offices with councillor Tshepo Nawane from Ward48 to make sure that our people get service irrespective of which ward they reside in at the absence of one of the two councillors,” said councillor Mhlari.

She said when there is a request to meet with residents or stakeholders, she does so as the need arises.
Councillor Mhlari said they are expected to hold public meetings quarterly and these meetings are held at Voting District Station within Ward 47.

The ward has 8 Voting District Stations namely, Esiyalwini School, Nasren Church, Margret Gwele School, Samuel Mangala Primary School, Ithembelihle Primary School, Thabang Primary School and Kopanong Hall.

“We also held an Integrated Development Programme (IDP) at ward and regional levels. We held successful ward committee election for Ward 47.

“We participated in school readiness programme, met with the Department of Education and School Governing Bodies (SGB’s).

“We also held meetings with NGO’s, shop owners and business people from Ward 47 and 48,” said councillor Mhlari.

She cited that they had skills programmes to assist with the challenge of unemployment in the ward with Dobsonville NGO’s Thabo Shole Mashawo- Funding Fridays programme.

Councillor Mhlari said short term employment was created from municipal entities and general labours and SMME’s were employed.

One local SMME and 16 local labours were employed during the Johannesburg Road Agency road resurfacing in Dobsonville.

“Ten local labourers were employed for long grass cutting at Dorothy Nyembe Park, 1 local labourer employed by Pikitup, Johannesburg Water Zondi pipe upgrade 3 local people were employed.

“As if that was not enough, Ikwezi Taxi Rank upgrade 24 local labours were employed and 5 local SMME’s were contracted.

“Ten local field workers were employed through Health-Champ programme,” said councillor Mhlari.

She said 20 local labours were employed by the Treasury Department for optic cable project and 50 local labourers were employed during the construction of Dobsonville Mall.

She said 20 local labourers were placed and 67 locals are still waiting to be placed at the newly Pick’n Pay Supermarket at Dobsonville Mall.

“Two locals were employed at newly built Mr Price shop at Dobsonville Mall, three employed at Clicks store and one employed at PQ store.

“Eight local labourers were employed by MTN optic fibre project and 70 locals employed by Call Direct-marketing insurance,” said councillor Mhlari.
