UJ student leads learners through challenges

A third-year student, Thembelihle Dube, has taken the initiative to make a positive impact in the community by leading a group of learners in their afternoon studies, revision and homework because some of them struggle with their academic subjects.
The after school programme takes place at Diepdale Secondary School where learners get the chance to remain after school to sharpen one another up under the supervision of Dube who is studying social work at the University of Johannesburg.
She is doing her practicals at the school because she had the chance to talk to some of the learners who expressed the challenges they encounter in their school work and the fact that they have to share textbooks.
Dube explained the reason behind her after school programme, “I figured the after school programme would help learners understand subjects and help one another.”
Dube has already formed a committee for the learners and they’ve created a box for the learners to drop their school work challenges into so they can be addressed.
The committee was introduced and is ready to help any struggling learner improve.
Dube’s love for humanity and learning has led her to choose to create the after school programme because she wants to see the country socially develop as a whole.
