Bid to deliver services in Claremont

Claremont community meets with government officials to discuss service delivery

Last month the community of Claremont went on an Integrated Visible Service Delivery (IVSD) operation.

Ward Councillor Susan Stewart, Khaltoem Parker from the Department of Community Development, officials of the City of Johannesburg (COJ), including the Department of Citizen Relationship and Urban Management, Johannesburg Metro Police Department, City Power officials from Region B and officers from the South African Police Services (SAPS) were all part of this operation.

According to Stewart, the operation became a necessity because of ongoing complaints received from residents about power outages in particular streets in Claremont.

The reasons were discovered during the operation undertaken Stewart and the team. The investigation identified that the power outages were caused by the many illegal connections, spaza shops and backyard dwellers in a number of streets in the area.

The additional strain on the power grid was as a result of so many illegal operations causing the overloading of the power supply to the area.

The COJ departments, especially Urban Management will conduct ongoing investigations pertaining to the issues identified.

Stewart expressed her thanks for the assistance of all of the officials and in particular, a heartfelt thank you to Solomon Mokgako, the urban inspector of Ward 82, for his ongoing dedication and hard work in the performance of his duties.

She continued to say that Mokgako demonstrated commitment and conducted his work with such professionalism, efficiency, and pride.
