Story:

Being a woman has never felt so good, with them having the opportunity to redefine their beauty through the Redefining Beauty photo shoot for women recently.

In its third edition this year, the purpose of this reveal all photo shoot is about loving and reflecting on thyself for the woman who took part.

Stripping down and being comfortable in your own skin was the theme this year for the ladies where they were wearing nothing but black underwear for their photo shoot.

Kamogelo Magabane the founder of the campaign said, “For some, it was their first experience and others returned from previous years but they all had one thing in common, they were there to celebrate being women.

“The vision and objective of the photo shoot are to challenge the beauty standards that exist in the media and in society.

“I do this shoot every year to give women an opportunity to have a reflective conversation with themselves about the body that they are in and start the journey of loving it.”

Challenging the beauty standards that already exist in society is not the easiest thing to do, especially for the average black woman, and it’s about giving them the opportunity to decide what’s acceptable and beautiful according to them.

Magabane said that African beauty is represented as the fuller figured woman, but again this is not the definition of beauty as beauty cannot be downsized to a particular size or shape.

Thus, wanting to give women curvaceous or not a platform to define beauty as it means to them.

“The Redefining Beauty campaign brought to you by Celebration of Life portrays the beauty that is the female body in all types, shapes, and sizes. Through photography this campaign seeks to give the woman who had defined her beauty by other people’s standards and opportunity to see how gorgeous she is,” said Magabane.

This year the theme was “love your body” and all kinds of women in different stages of their lives took part, braved body-shamers in order to empower themselves.

“The message of the Redefining Beauty Campaign is simple, Beauty is YOU– tall, short, stretch marks, scars, full figured, slender, curvaceous, and all the beautiful shades under the sun. Beauty is as endless as our potential as women,” concluded Magabane.
