2 men arrested for producing fraudulent vehicle documents at the Langlaagte DLTC

Eliminating the fraudsters in the driver's license departments

For many years there has been much speculations of fraudsters at the Driver, Learner Testing Centres (DLTC) and for many citizens, this results in them buying their drivers licences or them not having it at all.

A learner driver said: “There’s a lot of fraudsters out there. I mean, I can drive but when you go to the testing grounds they fail you because they want a bribe from you. So, they want you to keep coming back, and that’s wasting money. So instead, I will buy my licence because it’s through their shady deals that they force us to go that route.”

He then added: “If the department can eliminate all the fraudsters then I will go to my driver’s test and I will pass because like I said I can drive.”

Yesterday, the Gauteng Department of Community Safety and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) officers arrested two men at the Langlaagte DLTC for issuing out fraudulent vehicle documents.

The two men who have been said to be in their early thirties have been operating illegally within the area as well as in the inner city selling fraudulent vehicle documents, temporary licenses and much more for as little as R400.

“I commend my officer from the Gauteng Traffic Police and the RTMC for the sterling work in rooting out criminal elements within Driver, Learner Testing Centres (DTLC’s).

“These are meant to be centres of excellence where we mould new crop of drivers and serves as a passage to ensure that road-worthy vehicles are on our roads.

“Since I assumed this position, I have been advocating a message of road safety and we will not hesitate to deal decisively with any element that stands on our way to achieving this goal,” said MEC Nkosi Malobane.

The department is adamant to make more arrests and the two suspects are expected to appear at Johannesburg Commercial Crime Court on September 11.
