It was through Liberty that Mdelwa Hlongane Primary School received a donation of school shoes for learners in Grade R and Grade 1 early this year.

Again on Friday, August 25, Liberty refurbished the entire building of the school and fed the learners for the day through their employee volunteerism.

“When we came to donate shoes early this year, we realised that the school needed some refurbishment and couldn’t afford it,” said head CSI at Liberty, Nomaxabiso Matjila.

“One major thing we wish to improve is definitely the school’s pass rate, and this can only be achieved by keeping these learners in the class. We need to understand that there are psycho-socio needs involved,” said Matjila.

She explained that through their employee volunteerism they encourage employees to give back to the community, for instance, sanitary pads are the most critical currently.

“We cannot afford to have learners being absent from school because they do not have sanitary pads, so our goal is to have these sanitary pads available for these kids at all times and another important factor is to keep the learning environment clean,” Matjila said.

Learners from Mdelwa Hlongwane entertained Liberty employees as a token of appreciation for what they have done.

The principal of the school, Sibongile Khoza expressed her gratitude to Liberty employees for what they have done for the school.

‘’Our school is now beautiful; no words can describe how much I appreciate this. I am very happy. We have been requesting for donations without luck and finally, Liberty came to our rescue.

“This means good performance for the remaining terms because a clean environment plays a huge role in a child’s performance, thank you Liberty,” said Khoza.

It becomes easy to encourage cleanness in a clean environment, and therefore, from this point, Mdelwa Hlongwane Primary School will have an easy task teaching the learners how to keep their school clean.
