Women on the run to financial freedom

Here's what to expect in this year's Old Mutual Soweto Marathon

“The Old Mutual Soweto Marathon is one of the most iconic events on the South African road running calendar, and we are proud to be associated with a race that commemorates our past while building bridges for the future,” said Karen Thomas, Old Mutual head of brand.

The race usually takes place at the end of the year and last year a new route was implemented. The route takes runners through six significant heritage sites in Soweto.

In closing off Women’s Month, the brand and its partners had a free seminar at the FNB Stadium auditorium for 200 female athletes.

Race director Danny Blumberg said, “We’ve seen a huge increase in the number of female athletes set to compete in this year’s half marathon.

“Numbers have also increased in the marathon and 10 km run in terms of female competitors, so what better way to celebrate Women’s Month than offering a free educational seminar that covers a range of topics including financial management; healthy eating and meal planning; route advice and training and more.”

This year the Old Mutual Soweto Marathon will take place at the FNB Stadium, Nasrec, Johannesburg on November 5.

But in the meantime, the free seminar was to show appreciation to all the ladies who support the race.
